    The answer is actually D, because the passage is explaining, in simple terms, the general structure of a thesis statement. If the author were talking to doctoral candidates, the explanation would be in much more complex terms.Also, “The Scarlet Letter” is a book typically read in your junior year of high school :)

    If I understand correctly, I would say “D”. These are instructions on how to write an essay, and only students would need that.
