Transfiguration in Harry Potter?

Why are concentration and nerve important in the study of Transfiguration? I have to write a 150 word essay on it for an RPG site I belong to--please, no bashing Harry Potter. Its not the time, or the place. No bashing me, because all I did was ask for some help. If you don't have an answer, or a way for me to find an answer that is appropriate, I suggest you don't answer at all.

Well… logically speaking, within the realm of fantasy… one would have to concentrate very hard so as not to perform a partial transfiguration.you know… the cats body, but leave the head human.

TransfigurationTransfiguration is the changing of the form and appearance of an object, the conjuring and creation of objects, and the vanishing of objects. This is generally achieved through concentration, the precise waving of the wand and speaking the appropriate incantation. One of the trickier subjects, it requires great concentration and effort. The art of reversing Transfiguration is called Untransfiguration. Transfiguration is taught from the first year to the fifth, with the option of a N.E.W.T. course in the sixth and seventh years.Albus Dumbledore served as Transfiguration teacher before he became Headmaster. The most recent Transfiguration teacher, throughout the first six Harry Potter books, has been Deputy Headmistress Minerva McGonagall: a competent teacher and a stern but fair disciplinarian. Due to her assuming the post of Headmistress of Hogwarts, however, she may be unable to continue in her role as teacher, but may follow the example of Dolores Umbridge and perform both duties.

I’ve never gotten the impression that there are many different incantations needed to do Transfiguration (there are switching spells, vanishing spelling, and conjuring spells). Unlike Charms, where you need the knowledge of many different hexes, jinxes, charms and incantations, Transfiguration is almost completely based on will power. If you think about an object hard enough and concentrate enough you can change an object into somethings else. If you don’t, the transformation will not go through the entire way (turtles with spouts for tails or willow pattern shells, pincushions that curl up when approached with pins, Viktor Krum’s tranformation into half a shark). This would also explain the order in which they teach this, the difficulty of the spell is proportional to how different the object is (first they learn matches to needles and then they do beetles to buttons, they guinea fowl into guinea pigs then they have to make items disappear (something to nothing) and then conjuring (nothing to something). If fouled up things can become disasterous (Hannah Abbot’s flamingos), which is why there is so much supervision surrounded becoming an Animagus, if you mess up on yourself, that would be atrocious. I hope this helps.
